The President and Founder of the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center is thrilled to announce the launch of its first ever fine art show, Artists and Afros, celebrating the intersection of art and culture. Artists and Afros promises to be a spectacular showcase of African American art, culture, and heritage, featuring a diverse range of artists and their works. The show and art sale will include paintings, sculptures, and mixed media pieces, all celebrating the rich history and contributions of the Black community.

Attendees can expect to be immersed in a vibrant and thought-provoking experience, with opportunities to engage with the artists and purchase their beautiful work. This highly anticipated two-day event is scheduled to run from Saturday, October 5th through Sunday, October 6th.

This show will be held inside the state-of-the-art multipurpose Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. This facility is located on the sprawling 24-acre campus of the Louisville Urban League Sports and Learning Complex in Louisville’s Russell Neighborhood. A neighborhood once nicknamed Louisville’s Harlem for its booming African American business presence. This 24-acre property was founded and developed under the leadership of Sadiqa Reynolds, the Black woman, who serves as Founder and President of the Board.

"We are excited to launch Artists and Afros," said Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center President Sadiqa Reynolds. "This spectacular art show will showcase the rich cultural contributions of art in the African American community and will feature a diverse range of artists and their works. Attendees will be exposed to thought-provoking and vibrant art from local and nationally known artists with the opportunity to engage and understand their inspiration and techniques. Our mission and vision — centers around celebrating our rich heritage and exposing the boldness of Black art. We were also intentional about adding this event to run concurrent with the St. James Art Fair, in the hopes that those traveling to our city to enjoy and purchase art would benefit from adding this event to their itinerary and enjoying the options we are offering.”

In the spirit of community engagement, Artists and Afros will be done in partnership with E&S Gallery. Owned by Walter and Cathy Shannon, this is America's oldest, largest, and most reputable African American owned and operated fine art and custom framing gallery.

The event will also lend itself to other important local partnerships with Okike, an artist development platform focused on securing resources for Black creatives, and Erica Denise Entertainment, specializing in tailoring high quality entertainment.

Shauntrice Martin founder of Okike added, “Okike is excited to partner and bring local artists to share their work and expertise to gain exposure to a larger market. This event is reducing barriers for entrepreneurs in the historic Russell neighborhood and beyond. This Artists and Afros show has the potential to bring much-needed resources to our local arts community.”

This extraordinary two-day event will include an amazing line-up of entertainment presented by Erica Denise Entertainment. “We will not only celebrate visual art but also offer a unique platform for our talented performing artists to shine. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to showcase the dynamic creativity of our performers, enriching the cultural tapestry of this event,” said Erica, the CEO and Founder of Erica Denise Entertainment.

This event is the brainchild of Sadiqa Reynolds, and the product of the partnerships mentioned above. It serves to underscore the commitment of the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center Board to promoting and supporting the Black community.
