Louisville, Ky. (February 7, 2024) - ASM Global-managed Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center will host one of its most competitive high school indoor tracks meet in venue history this weekend when Eastern Indoors returns on February 7-8, 2025. New this year, the meet will feature collegiate events during the day on Friday, followed by high school competition Friday evening and all-day Saturday. More than 2,000 athletes from collegiate and high school programs are registered to compete throughout the two-day event, including the University of Louisville and Bellarmine University and high school athletes from seven states.
The goal of Eastern Indoors is to bring together some of the nation's most talented high school athletes to compete at one of the newest and fastest indoor track facilities in the country, the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. Eastern High School’s track and cross-country program is known for attracting top-tier talent to its events. In addition to Eastern Indoors, the program also hosts Louisville’s premier regular-season outdoor track meet, Eastern Relays, and the Louisville XC Classic, a highly anticipated cross-country invitational.
“We’ve seen tremendous growth in the sport of indoor track & field over the last few years, and this meet exemplifies that. With the talent coming to compete here, we’re anticipating one of the best weekends of track and field the region has seen,” said Marcus McAlpin, Assistant General Manager of the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. “Our facility has become a destination for athletes eager to break records, and we are excited to see what history these athletes will make this weekend. We invite the community to join us and witness world-class performances.”
While Friday evening’s competition is open to all high school athletes—and even features some exceptional middle schoolers—Saturday’s events have entry requirements based on previous performances. A select group of athletes earned their spots through strong qualifying results. This year’s final performance list includes some of the nation’s top high school athletes, with the boys and girl’s mile races expected to be the marquee events of the day, showcasing a highly competitive field.
Some of the nation's best high school talent will be showcased across multiple events at this year’s Eastern Indoors. The girls’ mile will feature Abby Faith Cheeseman from Tennessee, one of the nation's top performers in both cross country and track. With a mile personal best of 4:43, Cheeseman will be looking to challenge for a top-10 national time. Additionally, Skylar Cunningham from Georgia, ranked 7th nationally in the 200m with a PR of 23.61, is expected to make a strong showing in the sprint events.
The boys’ mile will be just as competitive, with 15 athletes entered under 4:15, led by Tennessee’s Zachary Youngblood. The boys’ 400 meter event is also shaping up to be a highlight, featuring two athletes under 48 seconds: Ryan Jones and John Moss will square off to determine who is the fastest.
“With a world class facility like the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center and so many of the top athletes and teams from around the Southeast and Midwest, this should be a great weekend of competition!,” said Michael Horan, Head Track and Cross Country Coach at Eastern High School.
