Louisville, Ky. (March 31, 2023) -The Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, managed by ASM Global, completed another record-breaking indoor track season and a major economic impact for the city.
From December 2022 through March 2023, the venue hosted 27 indoor track meets for youth, high school, collegiate, and master athletes. This was a 35% Increase over last season and Included the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, Louisville Urban League / Kentucky State University HBCU Classic, USATF Masters Indoor Championship, USATF Youth Indoor Championship, Louisville Indoor Games, and the Kentucky Middle and High School Indoor State Championships. These meets featured over 32,000 athletes from more than 80 colleges, 20 foreign countries, 250 US cities, and 27 US states.
"Throughout 2023, the Norton Sports & Learning Center continued to build upon its reputation as one of the premier indoor track and field venues,” said Dale Cowper Head Coach of the University of Louisville Track & Field. “The performances achieved during the last year will continue to make this a high-demand destination for elite track and field competitions in the years to come. Most importantly, this facility is continuing to create opportunities for individual growth through sport. With this facility, we have the ability to change lives through sport for generations to come.”
These indoor track meets have generated more than $9 million in economic impact for the city, tripling the impact of last year. As one of only nine hydraulically banked indoor track and field facilities in the nation, the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center is built for top performances. Due to its reputation as one of the fastest and most competitive indoor track facilities in the world the ASUN Conference awarded the venue the indoor championship meets for 2025, 2026, and 2027. Also, the USATF will return with the Youth Indoor Championship in 2024 The facility not only bolsters the local economy, it gives athletes a much sought-after platform to compete at their highest levels. Some of the highlights from the 2022/23 indoor track season include:
- Trey Allen | University of Louisville – Men’s High Jump - 2.27 meters / 7’5.25” Commonwealth College Opener. Trey bested the previous school record in the high jump and set his personal best
- Brian Herron | University of Texas – Men’s 500m – 59.87 Commonwealth College Opener. Brian set not only the NCAA record for his winning time but also the American record.
- Synclair Savage | University of Louisville– Women’s Long Jump - 6.52 meters / 21’4.75” PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. Synclair set a new school record and secured an event victory at the meet
- Thomas Ashby | Apollo High School -High School Boys 1500m -3:59.52 KTCCCA Class AA/AAA Indoor State Championships. Thomas broke not only his personal best record but a season-best record for his time.
- Wyatt Stewart | Madison Central High School | High School Boy Pole Vault - 17-03. Wyatt became number 1 in the US Pole Vault Standings after beating his previous personal best.
- The ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships had 394 Season Bests, 310 Personal Bests, 32 Facility Records, 10 ACC Meet Records, and 1 ACC Conference Record
