Louisville, Ky. (February 19, 2025) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is proud to announce the inaugural SIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship, which will take place at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center on Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21. The two-day event will showcase the best of collegiate track and field, bringing together some of the most talented athletes from the nation’s historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Admission is free for spectators on both days of competition.
This exciting championship will feature approximately 400 athletes representing eight elite SIAC member institutions, marking a significant milestone for both the conference and the city of Louisville. The event promises not only to highlight exceptional athletic talent but also to enhance the region’s economic landscape through tourism, local engagement, and increased visibility for Louisville as a premier sporting hub.
“We are extremely excited to host the inaugural SIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center,” said Anthony Holloman, SIAC Commissioner. “This facility is one of the finest indoor venues in the country, and it’s the perfect stage for our student-athletes to make history. The SIAC has produced some of America’s most celebrated track and field athletes, including two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Edwin Moses, former 400M World Record Holder and 2016 Olympic Long Jump Champion Jeff Henderson, and countless other Olympians. I encourage the people of Louisville to come out and witness the next generation of American track and field stars.”
Sadiqa Reynolds, President and Founder of the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, expressed excitement about the significance of this event for both the athletes and the city of Louisville. "We are incredibly proud to host the inaugural SIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship in Louisville," said Sadiqa Reynolds. "This event not only highlights the exceptional talent of these student-athletes but also represents an important step in creating long-lasting relationships with the SIAC. The championship will bring a significant economic boost to the city and serves as an important catalyst for future sporting events here at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center."
Reynolds emphasized the potential for future collaboration, noting the desire to build on this partnership to bring SIAC volleyball and outdoor track meets to the facility. “We are honored to host the SIAC and I believe this is just the beginning of what we hope will be an enduring partnership, opening the door for more world-class sporting events at our facility. It’s an exciting time for our community, and we look forward to seeing these college students running in our facility. This event is about track but for many of these students this is how they pay for college, so for us it is always bigger than the sport. We understand that education is key and this sport is holistic.”
More than just an athletic competition, the championship is poised to have a significant impact on the local economy. With hundreds of athletes, coaches, and fans traveling to Louisville, the event is projected to provide an economic boost to local businesses, hotels, and restaurants. This inaugural event further solidifies Louisville's place as a prominent host for major sporting competitions.
