Louisville, Ky. (June 11, 2024) – The JCPS student-led Future Ancestors group is excited to announce the Race4Justice is returning to the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center for the third consecutive year on Saturday, June 15 from 8 am to noon.

This year’s event will raise money for the 300 for 300, A Stroke of Grace, and Pushing Forward. In their first two years, the Future Ancestors raised almost $50,000 for nine local non-profits partners, and they hope to see a large increase in these contributions for this year's race. They have also pushed the Race4Justice to become a nation-wide MOVEment and had participants register from Florida to Alaska. In total, people from 36 different states registered to run “virtually” in solidarity with the event.

Organizers are encouraging the local community to come out and support the race to help them give back in a big way. “Show up for the race the same way you would want someone to show up for you!” said Future Ancestor member Carmen Espinoza Sissoko.

The Race4Justice is not just a run - it is accessible to all ages and abilities. Participants can walk, jog or roll to the finish. The Future Ancestors invite the community to come out and support the event in person or virtually. This year’s goal is 500 registrations and you can register at FutureAncestors502.org.

To help achieve the registration goal, this year’s Race4Justice will include a “Biggest Team Challenge.” Individuals and organizations are encouraged to register teams to represent a cause, an organization, or just a group of friends and family. Teams will then divide up the 26-lap walk however they want. There is no size limit to teams.

Participants and other visitors at the Race4Justice can enjoy more than just the race. The event at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center will feature music, art, speakers, and tables from other justice organizations throughout Louisville.

The Race4Justice is also still committed to honoring the life of Breonna Taylor and continuing to call for justice for her through the symbolic design of the event. Teams can register for a 26-lap relay, each lap dedicated to a year of Breonna Taylor’s life. Individuals can register for a 5-lap (or 1.3 mile) run/walk/roll -- Breonna Taylor was born on June 5th, 1993 and was killed on March 13th, 2020.
